  Late hours, tiredness, dark, La Guardia at night is like a Christmas tree,  
  so many light so there will be many contributing factors.  
    
  But I've been airside at airports more than once, also in cockpits of  
  commercial airliners and I remember when crossing a runway, even with  
  permission, always look left and right before you continue. It takes only a  
  second.
