   Personally, I'd use QuickBASIC, or PowerBASIC for DOS. (I find coloring   
   text to be trivial under DOS. Easy under Windows, easier under DOS.)   
      
   Hint: if you iterate a few more steps, you might notice an *extremely   
   obvious* pattern developing. (No programming required -- just use pen &   
   paper.)
