   Auric, I might check out some of the IDE's you listed.   
      
   To put it in perspective, I've been writing applications in QBASIC for 15   
   years and they are extremely fast. It's time to come out of the dark ages as   
   QBASIC is limiting, slow to develop in and does not have windows GUI   
   capability.   
      
   VB Express 2008 will do the job just fine but perhaps there is something a   
   little more lightweight for my style of apps.   
      
   It doesn't have to be OOP either, I'm quite happy to stick with arrays,   
   custom data types & procedures.   
      
   I thought perhaps VB6 would be the answer
