   LOS ANGELES —  A 5-year-old boy was killed Tuesday by gunfire   
   near downtown Los Angeles.   
      
   Police say the shooting happened at 4:25 p.m. in the Echo Park   
   neighborhood.   
      
   The child died after being transported to a hospital with   
   critical injuries, said Los Angeles police spokesman Sgt. Ronnie   
   Crump.   
      
   Witnesses saw a vehicle fleeing the scene but further details   
   were not immediately available, police said.
