Your power company and your county building department       have "rules" about these things. You might be able to get by with an ad       hock sub-1KW installation, but it likely will never pay for itself. If       you have a smart meter, you might not even get away with that!              Also don't fool yourself that you are buying a standby power system,       because a grid-tie inverter requires the grid to operate.
