   Ustaz Yahya Othman was a prominent Malaysian Islamic scholar, leader, and   
   politician who passed away in 2012. He was known for his contributions to

   Ustaz Yahya Othman was born in 1939 in Kelantan, a state in northeastern   
   Malaysia. He received his early Islamic education in Darul Ulum ad-Diiniyah,   
   Makkah (1947-1958) and then studied in Baghdad and Damascus for two years   
   before going to Egypt in 1960.    
   He obtained his bachelor's degree in Islamic law and jurisprudence from   
   al-Azhar University in 1966 and his master's degree in political science from   
   the same university in 1970.   
      
   He returned to Malaysia in 1967 and became a lecturer at the Yayasan Pengajian   
   Tinggi Islam Kelantan (YPTIK), an Islamic higher education institution. He   
   later became the dean of the Faculty of Islamic Law and Jurisprudence and the   
   deputy principal of    
   YPTIK. He resigned from his academic position in 1978 to contest in the   
   general election as a PAS candidate for the Pasir Puteh parliamentary seat. He   
   also founded and directed the Institut al-Nur, an Islamic institute, after PAS   
   lost power in Kelantan    
   in the 1980s.   
      
   Ustaz Yahya Othman was appointed as a member of the PAS Central Working   
   Committee from 1983 to 1999 and a member of the PAS Ulama Council from 1987.   
   He also served as the secretary of the PAS Ulama Council from 1993 to 1998. He   
   was elected as a state    
   assemblyman for Banggol Judah in Kelantan from 1990 to 1999 and became the   
   chairman of the State Committee on Islamic Development, Education, and Dakwah.   
   He was conferred the title of Datuk by the Sultan of Kelantan in recognition   
   of his services.   
      
   Ustaz Yahya Othman was widely regarded as a murabbi (mentor) for many PAS   
   leaders and activists. He was known for his deep knowledge of Islam, his   
   eloquence in preaching, his humility and sincerity, and his dedication to the   
   cause of Islam. He passed    
   away on June 14, 2012 at the age of 72 after a long illness. He was buried at   
   his hometown in Labok, Kelantan.   
      
   As a tribute to his legacy, a book titled Amal Jamaie Ustaz Yahya Othman was   
   published by PAS in 2013. The book contains a collection of his speeches,   
   writings, and interviews on various topics related to Islam and politics. The

   Ustaz Yahya Othman was not only a scholar and a leader, but also a poet and a

   various aspects of Islam, such as tafsir (Quranic exegesis), fiqh (Islamic   
   jurisprudence), usul al-fiqh (principles of Islamic jurisprudence), tasawwuf   
   (Islamic spirituality), and siyasah syar'iyyah (Islamic politics). Some of his

   Surah al-Fatihah, Fiqh al-Ibadat, Usul al-Fiqh al-Islami, Tasawwuf dan   
   Tarbiyah Islamiyyah, and Siyasah Syar'iyyah: Konsep dan Aplikasi.   
      
   Ustaz Yahya Othman was also a pioneer and a visionary in the field of Islamic   
   education and dakwah. He played a key role in establishing and developing   
   several Islamic institutions in Malaysia, such as YPTIK, Institut al-Nur,   
   Maahad Dakwah wa Imamah, and    
   Institut Latihan Islam Malaysia (ILIM). He also initiated and participated in   
   various dakwah programs and activities, such as ceramah (lectures), halaqah   
   (study circles), khutbah (sermons), daurah (seminars), mukhayyam (camps), and   
   tabligh (outreach). He    
   was instrumental in spreading the message of Islam to various segments of   
   society, especially the youth, the professionals, and the rural folks.   
      
   Ustaz Yahya Othman was also a loyal and committed member of PAS, the largest   
   Islamic political party in Malaysia. He joined PAS in 1967 and remained active   
   until his death. He held various positions and responsibilities in the party   
   at the national and    
   state levels. He was also involved in several political campaigns and   
   movements, such as the Anti-ISA Movement, the Reformasi Movement, the Bersih   
   Movement, and the Himpunan Hijau Movement. He advocated for the establishment   
   of an Islamic state based on    
   the Quran and the Sunnah. He also promoted the concept of amal jamaie   
   (collective action) as a means of achieving political change.
