It's a wonder that any of us get to grips with the understanding of
electricity, when the fundamental lessons are impossible to
realise, starting with two point charges one metre apart in a vacuum.

Perhaps that is why the SI system defines the Ampere and not the Coulomb
as its fundamental unit, but whoever has realised two infinitely long
   parallel
   wires one metre apart?

From the early days before the revelation of J.J.Thomson, it was thought
   that
electricity was some form of fluid, and that gave rise to the weird
name of Rheostat as " Stream Control" and also what we now just
refer to as a bit of wire, the Rheofore.

What is truly amazing, though, is the theories developed by James Clerk
   Maxwell,
considering that he did not have the benefit of vector calculus and had to
   deal with
   each dimension separately.
