The three (sometimes less than       3) wires seen on the cross arms of utility poles (usually up to 34 kV       line-to-line) are MV, not HV. The voltage levels for the MV designation       have changed over the years depending on what IEEE and or NEMA standard       is being referenced but currently in the US the range is from just under       1 kV to 69 kV.
