   > Any suggestions for 50-somethings to do in Portland the middle of August?

   - River cruise!

   - Scenic flight! (Mt St. Helens or the Gorge from Troutdale.)

   - Rose Gardens (*sniffle*)

   - Ride bikes along the riverwalk loop, Steel Bridge to Hawthorne.

   - Go stroll the dock or have a drink at Newport Bay on the river at
Riverplace. Bring bread or pretzels to feed the geese...(the gawdamn
   getting-in-my-boat-and-shitting-all-over-it-while-I'm-gone-but-loveable-anyway
   geese.)

   - If it's at night, go down to Cathedral Park in St. Johns. This park is
AMAZING at night. And, supposedly, haunted by the ghost of some girl that
was killed there many decades ago. Supposedly, you can hear her scream on
warm summer nights, but I attribute that to ambient North Portland carrying
   along the river.

   - Pack a lunch or dinner and drive out to Rocky Butte. It's free and the
   view is spectacular.

   - Hike up to Pittock Mansion, or just stroll Forest Park.

   - Have fun.
