In the 50s quite a bit of Lake Michigan used to freeze and folks thought
it fun to drive on the lake - cars in those days. Some thought it real
neat to drive near the edge of the ice. Sometimes floes would break off
with an automobile on board. It was great fun for Everyone Else
speculating whether or not the floe would melt or tip over before the
   Coasties got to it.
