Two instances my old fishing buddy called to greet me with this
   morning from Minnyusoda.

It's early in the ice fishing season there. A couple of folks with
snowmobiles wanted to get across the lake, but they had heard the ice
was still too dangerous. So -- what do they do? Please take just a
moment and let this one sink in:

They put inflated inner tubes around themselves Before they tried to
   cross.

Think through the Utter Stupidity of that for only a moment.

All three went through. All three came out of their inner tubes the
moment they hit the water, but only one was in 16 ft. The other two
were in less than five. The two survived, the one didn't.

The Darwin Awards committee should hear of this.

The second one occurred last night, near Brainerd. Someone with an
ATV decided to try running the thin ice. Water was about 40 ft deep.

The two victims will be missed by their families, no doubt. Society
will, however, be better off without them. My understanding, however,
is that one of them managed to breed successfully before demonstrating
   an incapacity for survival.

   Unfortunate, that.
