For my daily commute to work on the Mountain, I usually have a snack
packed. Also, two sets of insulated ski bibs (hey, ski season's here,
I want to have a chance to go at the drop of a hat), wool socks, wool
and/or fleece hat and gloves (in multiples, lots and lots of gloves
and hats end up lurking in my trunk by March), hiking boots, fleece
jackets (I also have several pairs of riding boots in the trunk but
that's for the barn), water bottles, chains, plastic for me to kneel
on while attaching my chains that's tarp-sized, cell phone,
   flashlight(s)...

When we go out skiing, or when I do the Timberline ski nights, I add
food in the car. We usually carry excess water, knives, TP, excess
plastic grocery shopping bags, space blankets, and high-energy
munchies. Hunting season when we're out hunting, we carry our camp
box which has even more stuff in it, including matches.

I need to put a lighter back in my purse. I don't usually carry a
knife in it because they're forbidden at school.
