   Stupid isn't the right word.  I think "unlucky" is probably vastly   
   closer.  IIRC, the weather was fine when they intended to climb.  It   
   only got bad long after they intended to be off the mountain (when the   
   search and rescue effort was getting underway).  It was being unlucky   
   (the injury) that prevented them from doing that.  Stupid is only the   
   right word if you assume they were trying to maximize safety, which   
   they clearly weren't.
