Novices, and most Hood climbers are, climb in the spring: April to
early June. Novices climb the south side route. I am a novice, both
my climbs were. From what I hear, the cooper spur route feels hairy
as hell, especially descending (which is why lots of climbers descend
the south side after climbing it, as this party planned to do).

There are routes on Hood that can only be done in the winter, because
the rock is rotten and needs snow/ice to stabilize it.
