   My dad (now dead) served in the USMC in the Pacific in WWII.   
      
   Back then if a marine gone a bad sunburn he was treated but he was also   
   punished for not take the proper precautions.   
      
   A GI is expected to go where he is told.   He also is expected to take along   
   his basic equipment as is SOP.
