   An ohmmeter measures resistance (or lack thereof) and is therefore   
   certainly useful in testing house circuitry.  Lack of resistance means a   
   short.  Infinite resistance indicates "open" or disconnected state.   
   A volt-ohmmeter is very commonly used to test home circuitry.
