   Yep, I bought a place without any outbuildings. It made buying much   
   cheaper, but now I do have to add outbuildings to make the place usable.

   The other option would be to dig out the uphill side to make the floor   
   level. It needs to be done properly with a big enough cut and slope back   
   uphill toward the building to avoid runoff flooding out the shop. By   
   diggging down the costs of fill and compaction are avoided. That's exactly   
   what I'm going to do for my shop and it's about $5000 cheaper than putting   
   in fill. That and I'm doing a three floor levels inside to match the slope   
   and reduce the cut.

   Agreed. His whining about the fees doesn't bug me as much as the whining   
   about not being allowed to build in a flood plain. Just because the people   
   in NO are stupid doesn't mean we should be too. For $4000 he's avoiding   
   being another flood statistic. Big whoop. It'd sure be worth it to me.
