From: jdjj2@msn.com              No one has suggested we should turn our backs on the 'Pledge of       Allegiance'. In fact, I support saying it.              However, religious freedom is something we have been built on, as a       nation. Granted, the majority of religious belief, in this country,       has been Christian based faith. Despite the different denominations,       we all have a general view and interpretation of scripture, that is       similar. The problem with many other countries, including France, is       the arrival of religions, with a 'fundamentalist' bent. The reason       there are so many problems, in France, is because of radical Islam.       The problem is 'fundamentalism'........a strict, legalistic       interpretation of faith. Unlike, the more liberal traditions of many       American churches and temples. But, if the influx of 'fundamentalist'       Islam continues in this country.......we will experience the same       problem here too. It isn't 'religion' per say, it's 'fundamentalism'.       We have many civil, and secular laws already on the books, that should       curb, even keep in line, fundamentalist fervor. I don't see the need       to invent a 'State Church', or, govern curriculum. Just enforce laws.              If a religion preaches, or, insights activity that is against the       law.......then the state has the 'right' to deal with that individual       group. They have the law on their side. The whole of religion should       not be governed, or, dictated to by the state.......just because there       are certain groups that abuse their faith.                            Jack.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
