   Nobel Prize to Two Bay Area Scientists   
      
   A trio of American scientists, two from the Bay Area, have won the 2009   
   Nobel Prize for Medicine or Physiology. Elizabeth Blackburn of UC San   
   Francisco and Carol Greider of UC Berkeley share the honor with a resarcher   
   from Harvard University. They're being recognized for discovering and   
   documenting how chromosomes are copied and protected from degradation.   
   "The discoveries by Blackburn, Greider and Szostak have added a new   
   dimension to our understanding of the cell, shed light on disease   
   mechanisms, and stimulated the development of potential new therapies," the   
   prize committee in Sweden said in a statement.   
      
    They'll share $1.4 million.
