Alas       > yes, but had it really been a popular vote, getting a slim margin       > would then erupt into screams for a recount.              Supposably Trump says he still supports using the popular vote for the       presidential election (see link [3]) below. But you're right, it is an       almost hopelessly corrupt system, but I think still worth trying to fix       it. One thing Oregonians can do is bury Oregon senate president Peter       Courtney[1] in emails, calls and letters urging him to get behind the       National Popular Vote bill[2]. The the Oregon House has passed popular       vote legislation in 2009, 2013 and 2015 but Courtney prevented the       legislation from coming to the Senate floor each time.[3] 11 states have       already adopted the popular vote legislation; it shouldn't be hard to get       11 or so more to achieve the 270 electorial votes needed to make it the       law in all states. Probably this would have happened a long time ago if       presidential elections happened more frequently; as it is, everyone just       wants to stop thinking about it once November 8th passes. This year seems       a bit different so maybe it will finally happen.              Peace.              [1] https://www.oregonlegislature.gov/courtney       [2] http://www.nationalpopularvote.com/       [3] http://www.opb.org/news/series/election-2016/electoral-colle       e-oregon-trump-president-clinton/              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
