The Catholic Church definitely tried to prohibit birth control
availability, and ( I do not know if this is still in effect)
for a time stated that any Catholic who voted to allow
abortions would be denied access to rights.

The Catholic Church is entitled to ADVISE its members what
to do, and can even SUGGEST to others to do this. Anything
more is violation of the separation of church and state.
That I do not LIKE certain types of behavior does not mean
that I would vote to prohibit them.

One should keep in mind the following, quote from memory.

Good people will do good things, and evil people will do evil
things. But for good people to do evil things requires religion.

I am not accusing any particular religion here; many are guilty,
including mine. The essence of freedom is the right to do
what others believe is wrong. The right to swing my fist
stops at, or even before, your nose; I do not have a moral
right to harm you, but I do not need to follow your morality.

The greatest immorality of all is to impose one's morality on others.
