XPost: alt.fan.barbra.streisand, alt.fan.j-garofalo, alt.politics.democrats       XPost: alt.fan.art-bell       From: hpgoldfinger@N0SPAM.C0M              A Stupid Liberal DemocRAT Over the Line.                     Publication:The New York Sun; Date:Apr 12, 2004; Section:New York;       Page:4                     A DemocRAT Over the Line              ALICIA COLON acolon@nysun.com              It’s not often that I get absolutely boiling mad, but my level of       tolerance for DemocRATs is fast approaching an all-time low.              It’s bad enough that their efforts to regain control of power in       Washington is driving irresponsible senators like Edward Kennedy and       Robert Byrd to make ludicrous public statements that embolden those       attacking our military in Iraq.              Now it appears as if some ambitious local politicians have completely       lost all sense for the need to maintain national security.              City Council Member Bill Perkins has actually proposed legislation to       allow legal immigrants to vote, and when I first read about it, my       reaction was to ask: “Is he crazy? ”This blatant grab for the Hispanic       vote is over the line even for a DemocRAT.              To make sure I wasn’t overreacting I called up every member of my       family (all DemocRATs), every Hispanic friend and neighbor, and then I       polled every reader on my e-mail list who is Hispanic. All questioned       his sanity.              That this is even considered a serious proposal is beyond belief.              Mayor Bloomberg issued a statement that immigrants should go about       becoming a citizen before getting the right to vote. Naturally, Mr.       Perkins, a DemocRAT from Harlem, blasted him.              “The essence of citizenship is not simply the right to vote,” Mr.       Perkins said.“The right to vote is the essence of democracy. To me,       the responsible thing to do, the right thing to do...is expand the       franchise and to be inclusive.”              Mr. Perkins, America is not Mc-Donald’s, a Burger King, or any other       franchise. Do you think you’d be able to go to work in any foreign       country and be expected to vote in their elections?              This is just the latest effort to influence the so-called Hispanic       vote. Freddie Ferrer, a potential mayoral candidate, reportedly has       expressed support for this legislation. May I remind the DemocRATs       that just because a politician is Hispanic does not necessarily mean       he represents all Hispanics.              It becomes tiresome to insist that we are not a monolithic community.       Hispanics come from many different nations. Some have been here for       many years; some, like myself, were born here. Some are citizens, some       are not. The largest group of immigrants may speak one language, but       we do not all think alike and it is infuriating when one politically       party insists that we do.              The idea America should make it possible for anyone with a green card       who is not a citizen to vote for the president is mind-boggling,       especially post-September 11.              My husband works at a large Midtown hotel, which has a multi-ethnic       staff. So I asked him to conduct a mini-poll to test the staff’s       reaction to Mr. Perkins’s legislation. His query turned into quite a       firestorm of heated debate.              Those immigrants who were naturalized citizens were definitely opposed       and charged that this legislation would dilute the entire       naturalization process. It took one bellman from Haiti 10 years to       become a citizen.              But then a woman housekeeper from Guatemala, who is a green card       holder, remarked that if you come to this country and pay taxes, you       should be able to vote. She was severely rebuffed by the naturalized       citizens who informed her that those taxes were for the services       provided by the government such as police and fire protection,       sanitation and schools.              Why, she was asked, should immigrants who come here and send their       wages back home to buy land in their homelands have any say in how       this country is run?              The DemocRATs have been exploiting the Hispanic vote for quite a       while. Does anybody remember the Citizenship USA program in 1996,       which waived security requirements for naturalization of more than       75,000 immigrants with criminal records. This scheme to subvert the       1996 election (which worked) is reported in detail by David Shippers,       in his book “Sellout.”              Mr. Shippers, a lifelong DemocRAT who voted for Clinton/Gore twice,       writes that Team Gore pressured the INS to suspend background       investigations on applicants for American citizenship. This program       was an effort to naturalize a million immigrants who might be more       likely to vote DemocRATic. Twenty percent of the convicted felons who       were naturalized committed crimes within two years, meaning these new       citizens robbed, raped, and murdered thousands of Americans. About       168,000 immigrants were naturalized without proper fingerprinting and       FBI criminal history checks.              The hosts of that new liberal station Air America, which,       incidentally, bumped a local black station, WLIB, to air a daily       diatribe against President Bush, never fail to mention how he stole       the 2000 election.              They never mention the other DemocRATic voter-fraud allegations such       as giving away cigarettes in Milwaukee, touring the jails to register       misdemeanor crooks, signing up feeble nursing home residents       as DemocRATs, and the mysterious disappearance of a 50,000-vote Bush       lead in Florida late on election night.              The voter registration form makes it clear that only citizens may       vote. Penalty for making a false statement is a fine of $5,000 or up       to four years in jail. This needs to be enforced!              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
