   They weren't. Military vehicles often had no tops and no doors. The idea   
   was to get out and quickly take cover.

   I think that it is with some people. I think also that armour has been   
   show to mitigate some of the effects of some of the IEDs. Since at least   
   one main battle tank was flipped by an IED, I expect that armour alone   
   isn't the answer. We are talking about people who don't really have a   
   shortage of explosives and can therefore build the bomb as big as they
