That's where they are in *my* personal filing system, but I doubt that's
affecting their CD sales one iota. I'm sure that they have their fans, and
they may well have started out as street musicians in Dallas. The Spice
Girls may have started out as West Brompton corner hookers. I don't care for
the Dixie Chicks (my "country" tastes fall a lot more along the lines of
David Allan Coe, Willie Nelson, Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash, June Carter and
k.d. lang. But my dismissing the *Chicks* as a trio of tarts, as you say,
has nothing to do with the *controversy* -- what bothers me is that there
even *is* a controversy. I don't believe that they should be vilified as
anti-American rebels *or* hailed as courageous, outspoken heroes. They
merely bleated out the very same opinion that most of Hollywood, most
high-school kids and the majority of the popular music industry espouses, so
it's really about as tame a rebellion as it gets. I just think they're
handling it in a silly way -- defensive, pointing fingers, making grand
statements about freedom of speech, blah blah blah, and acting like
   vindictive sorority sisters.
When Susan Sarandon spoke out at the Oscars I also rolled by eyes, but she
somehow managed to handle the fallout (and defend her stance) without
   looking like a twit.
And I despise Bush. I cringe with embarrassment whenever I hear him talk.
I'm not sure whether I addressed your point or merely rambled on here.
