   Thanks for asking. Was trying to figure out why 118 years, it's a very   
   specific number.   
   To date, there never existed a communist country. They were all Socialist,   
   some of which hoped to achieve communism. However none ever did. The oldest   
   socialist country was the USSR. If it still existed today. It would be 100   
   years old.   
   So I assume it is from Countries that are Socialist or had at one time been   
   socialist.   
   AK-47: Probably changed the world more than anything else in the last 118   
   years that was created by humanity.   
   It turned a slave into a master, and a colony into an independent nation.   
   It gave a fighting chance to anyone with no chance at all.   
   The AK-47 is a stamp out weapon easily made in almost any machine works.   
   It is highly reliable and forgiving. You can drown it, bury it in sand or mud,   
   or drive a tank over it. It will still work.   
   A perfect peasant weapon. Needing little or no training. Little or no   
   maintenance. Yet a masterpiece that is still widely used today.   
   Fight for independence across the world from Asia to Africa to South America.   
   The freedom fighters for once had the fire power the colonial masters had if   
   not better. New countries started popping up. There is no colonial master that   
   left out of the    
   kindness of their heart. All were forced out by war or peacefully.   
   Some countries are so grateful to the weapon that they incorporated it into   
   their national flags.

   Even today in every conflict you will find it   
   On every child soldier, farmer, herder, drug dealer or Soldier. Still changing   
   the world around us.   
   Kalashnikov himself was asked on his thoughts on how his invention has changed   
   the world.

   and that would help farmers with their work — for example a lawnmower. I   
   sleep well. It's the politicians who are to blame for failing to come to an

   A few others to mention.   
   Satellites. The father of all satellites was the Sputnik 1   
   which means traveller. From only bleeping to the world to hear, to controlling   
   every aspect of our lives in just 60years. From phoning your loved ones to war   
   The USSR started a lot of concepts for space exploration. Apart for been first   
   in space. They started space probes and their probes were first to Mars and   
   Venus.   
   Space stations were started by them too.   
   There are very many of inventions we use today.   
   Like the Autojector the first heart- lung machine. Without which transplants   
   would not be possible.   
   Illizarov apparatus which allows to grow your leg longer.   
   However the top one maked the greatest impart and altered world history more   
   than anything else.
