|    Lina Khan goes to Congress    |

From: lessgovt@gmail.com              Lina Khan goes to Congress       By Carl Szabo July 10, 2023, Wash. Examiner              Federal Trade Commission Chairwoman Lina Khan is set to testify before the       U.S. House Judiciary Committee on Thursday.              Khan, a name now synonymous with a contempt for constitutional norms, has       refused to turn over documents to Congress . This act echoes that of FBI       Director Christopher Wray and places Khan under the shadow of potential       contempt of Congress charges. These        actions are not merely political jousting but have significant implications       for all Americans.              The FTC is one of the most powerful agencies in the country, holding the       authority to govern every single business in the nation. A once widely       respected, bipartisan commission, it is now run by Democrats after Khan’s       corruption drove all Republican        commissioners to leave. But the consequences of Khan’s actions extend far       beyond mere congressional subpoenas, political feuds, or interagency       bureaucracy — they’re affecting the daily lives of consumers and       businesses.              Put simply, Khan’s policies hurt our pocketbooks. Before her tenure at the       FTC, she became famous for writing a paper where she complained that       Amazon’s prices were too low. This anti-consumer approach seems to have       carried over to her tenure at the        FTC. The agency, once consumer-centric, now prioritizes "fair competition" —       a term that appears to be a guise for implementing policies irrespective of       consumer impact. These changes don't come without costs. Under Khan, the FTC       has taken an        adversarial stance against businesses, working to block key mergers such as       Illumina-Grail and Meta-Within, even against the advice of FTC's own staff.       Such actions hinder consumers grappling with inflation and may even restrict       access to crucial medical        treatments.              Moreover, Khan's policy shifts have led to increased fraud-related costs for       people. Since Khan took over, people suffered a huge surge in fraud, with       consumer financial losses to imposter scams skyrocketing 300 % since she took       the helm. This led to a $       8.8 billion hole burnt in pockets in 2022 alone.              But it's not just consumers and business interests that have suffered. Khan       has shown an alarming disregard for accountability and the rule of law. From       suppressing internal dissent through gag orders on FTC staff to allowing "       zombie votes " from        departed commissioners and alleged illegal collaborations with foreign       governments, these actions have all undermined the FTC's credibility.       Whistleblower reports also show that Khan runs a covert "fellowship program,"       recruiting progressive policy        writers without following federal hiring norms or disclosure requirements.              Unsurprisingly, the FTC's once-high-morale has nosedived , with the agency's       ranking on the "Best Places to Work in the Federal Government" list falling       from 2nd to 22nd. This decline can be traced back to Khan's leadership style       and her apparent        disregard for the FTC's founding mission. This situation warrants serious       concern and cannot be allowed to continue. Khan's apparent disdain for       transparency, coupled with allegations of abuse, has pushed the FTC into       precarious territory.              Fortunately, the House of Representatives is no longer accepting this       behavior. Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) is leading a charge for       increased scrutiny and accountability, including into Khan’s misdeeds,       signaling an end to the reign of rogue        bureaucrats in federal agencies. And Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-KY) has       opened an investigation into Khan’s shenanigans.              The days of unchecked power at the FTC are numbered. Hopefully, through the       House’s investigation, the power of the purse, and contempt orders,       accountability can be restored in the interest of the nation.              Carl Szabo is VP and General Counsel for NetChoice, and a professor of       internet law at George Mason University's Antonin Scalia Law School.               https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/restoring-america/fairness-ju       tice/lina-khan-goes-to-congress              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
