|    Marijuana misconceptions of the police .    |

2a59bc44       From: late1@xx.com               CBC did a bit of a marijuana special on the tube this week.              I was shocked to see so-called police experts still spouting two old-time       fables ... Their lack of sophistication, in 2004, is astounding.              1) Pot is a gateway drug and leads users to harder stuff ... Surely, if       this were true, there would be a cocaine and heroin epidemic among Baby       Boomers and people who have been smoking pot for decades. There is no such       epidemic. People settle in to pot and hash and stay there.              2) Today's pot is too strong. Yes, and whisky is a lot stronger than       beer and wine, but they still sell that in the liquor store.              Today's pot is stronger, which is why we smoke less of it per use. Much as       one might pour a two-ounce shot of whisky, instead of drinking the stuff       like beer, a pot smoker smokes smaller amounts.              But, incredibly, to the narrow minded police officials on the drug squads,       those two misconceptions are not only true, they justify enforcing a law       that incarcerates people for these reasons.              The stupidity is maddening.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
