Two brothers were tossed in jail Friday for a wild road-rage
clash with an off-duty cop set to be released from the hospital
later in the day after surgery for a gunshot wound.

In shocking video footage, Shawn, 27, and Edwin Rivera, 32, are
seen trying to wrestle a gun away from off-duty cop Christoper
Campos in the tense brawl that left him with a bullet to the
knee — and the elder Rivera injured by a slug that ripped
through his hand, according to a criminal complaint.

The brothers appeared Friday morning in Queens Criminal Court,
where Judge Anthony Battisti ordered them held without bail.

Campos is slated to be released from Elmhurst Hospital on Friday
   afternoon.

The melee began around 12:50 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection
of Queens Boulevard and 70th Street in Elmhurst — where Campos,
driving a green Kia Soul, tried to get around the brothers’
white Chrysler Pacifica blocking the road.

After Campos got around the car, it sped up — almost hitting the
   cop’s vehicle, the complaint alleges.

Campos stopped and reversed his car in the intersection toward
the Pacifica to see what had happened. He saw Shawn Rivera run
toward his car and punch the car’s back window, shattering the
   glass, authorities charged.

Campos then got out of his car — gun drawn — and told the
brothers he was a cop and was going to arrest them, the court
   papers say.

The incident was filmed with a cellphone by a bystander and
caught Edwin saying at one point, “Leave him alone, he’s a cop.”
The video also captured Shawn admitting to smashing Campos’
   window, the complaint says.

“Get his gun, he’s nothing without his gun,” one of the brothers
said, according to the complaint, citing the video.

The siblings pushed Campos — who called for backup — before
Edwin put his arms around the cop’s neck and squeezed, causing
the officer to fall to the ground, the criminal complaint says.

The video shows Shawn then “join [Edwin] in wrestling” Campos,
   the complaint alleges.

Edwin tried to get the gun away from Campos by choking him and
causing him “to see black and white, have difficulty breathing
and begin to lose consciousness,” the complaint alleges.

During the struggle for the weapon, Campos “fired one round of
ammunition from his firearm, which struck [Campos] in his leg
and which struck” Edwin “in his hand,” the complaint claims.

Campos “is in severe pain and is unable to walk,” and “underwent
surgery to his knee,” the complaint says.

The duo are charged with first-degree assault, assault on a
police officer, attempted criminal possession of a weapon,
strangulation and related crimes. They face up to 25 years in
   prison if convicted.

“We will not allow our streets to devolve into the Wild West,”
Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said in a statement. “The
rule of law and the officers who enforce it must be respected.”

“After clearly identifying himself as a police officer, this off-
duty cop was attacked while trying to make an arrest and the
charges reflect the seriousness of the assault against him.”

The Riveras’ criminal defense attorney didn’t immediately return
   a request for comment Friday.
