From: leafs04@stanley.baystreet              I was speaking with a Vancouver, Canada criminal lawyer last week, who has       had involvement in the case of a serial killer of prostitutes in that city       that has shocked the country -- perhaps Americans are even aware of the       crime.              The accused owned a farm outside the city and apparently ushered them to the       site and then murdered them and buried them throughout his property. We're       talking double figures here, in terms of the number of killings.              The case has brought storms of protest that the cops were negligent in their       investigations -- that the killing of prostitutes was given short shrift by       the boys in blue, on the basis that the disappearance of streetwalkers is       not worthy of investigation.              Turns out the reality is a little more pragmatic, and not so judgmental.              Turns out that, because any investigation into prostitution likely reveals       drug use, connections, dealers ... that the cops were quickly diverted to       that activity, that the force was too easily distracted by the chance of       making a drug bust ...              So, in Vancouver, making a drug bust trumps the serial murders of human       beings ...              Proof that the drug war is more deadly than any drug.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
