   able to tax its citizens. Why should taxpayers in Maine pay for California?

   that the free market and the self-interested use of private property    
   will, via Adam Smith’s “invisible hand,” invariably result in the best    
   result for society at large.

   Libertarians contend that virtually all economic and social institutions    
   are better managed when privatized and unregulated. According to this    
   theory, the greed (i.e., “profit motive”) of investing private    
   individuals is, in virtually all cases, mystically transformed into the    
   optimum public good.

   There is no Public. Explain how the ‘public’ does anything. Government   
   managed institutions are widely known to be ineffective and inefficient. This   
   is why socialis centrally planned societies always fail. Government is also   
   comprised of people
