   The prototype is laid down in the Torah. Go to Egypt, weasel your way   
   into a position of power, and come up with some welfare scheme purported   
   to save the people from famine. Come seven years and it turns out you   
   own all the wheat the people grew, which you then sell back to them. If   
   they don't have money, you'll take land, livestock, slaves, whatever.   
      
   After a while your tribe owns everything and the people are getting   
   pissed. Your god advises you to get out of town, and you do so after   
   stealing everything that isn't nailed down.   
      
   On your way to new lands to plunder, you're save by a miracle. Sometimes   
   the Red Sea parts, sometimes it doesn't.
