   When I graduated college I thought I was looking forward to a career   
   designing industrial automation systems. There were a few golden years   
   in the machine tool industry as plants replaced machinery that had been   
   purchased during WWII and was at the end of life. Then the money people   
   decided it was more lucrative to rebuild the old equipment and send it   
   to someplace with cheap labor. The first stop was the southern US   
   states, then the maquiladoras across the border, and finally Asia.   
      
   The machine tool industry centered on the Connecticut river in   
   Connecticut and Vermont is history replaced by a thriving drug industry.   
      
   Our so-called leaders pissed it all away.
