   Well, that’s very romantic & nobel - self sacrifice for the good of others.   
   I have a daughter who did just that last week-end at a NYC public beach. She   
   spoke up against some abusive behavior by a man against a woman - as in "First   
   they came for the    
   socialists, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a socialist...“    
   She was punched in the head pretty hard for her good deed & had a sore neck   
   for a couple of days. It may have caused a concussion. It could have turned   
   out worse. There were others there as well who did nothing (incl her husband).    
   I think you and she have a similar world view. I gave her an A for effort and   
   an F for tactics.    
   Bottom line: that self sacrifice was a waste. The bad guy had no negative   
   consequences. That probably encourages poor behavior.    
   Human behavior is not based on selflessness. What exists is a consequence of   
   successful conquest rationalized & wrapped in moral authority. Self sacrifice   
   is a losing tactic for both yourself & others. According to Darwin, that trait   
   will die out.
