   2.  Gunowner puts stuff into boat including gun, takes it to   
        water and launches it.

   5.  Final result is a permanent rise in water level.

   2.  Gunowner puts gun in boat.  Water level rises.   
   3.  Boating accident, gun falls overboard.  Displacement from gun   
        in water equals loss of displacement from gun no longer in boat.   
   4.  Final result is a permanent rise in water level.   
      
   But you're missing the whole point.  In the good ol' USA, we   
   don't have to given anybody a reason if we want a gun.  No   
   justification needed, no reason, no apologies.  "I want one"   
   is all the reason we need.  Why is nobody's business.
