Water level 1: Before gun is placed in boat.
Water level 1a: When gun is placed in boat.
Water level 2: After gun is dropped from boat into water.
   Result: level 2 > level 1.
The fact that level 1a > level 2 does not change the final
result. And that's your problem. You want to compare 1a
and 2, when you should be comparing 1 and 2.

And you're still ignoring the real question, "Why do you own
a gun?" and the correct answer, "None of your damn business."
