Some religions view suicide as a sin; and many people, whether
religious or not, see suicide as wrong. In many other situations I
   would agree with them.

This is one of those occasions where I hope people put themselves in
this chaps situation before making snide remarks from their armchair.

Kipling wrote about wounded soldiers committing suicide in afganistan
rather than being cut to bits by the enemy. This seems like a similar
   situation 100 years later.
