   There were two films from the '60s that were better known for being soft   
   porn than the social statement, 'I Am Curious (Yellow)' and 'I Am   
   Curious (Blue)'. I think Lena Nyman may have rendered a very accurate   
   representation of the times.   
      
   As far as the immigrants, iirc the problems even show up in some of   
   Mankel's novels and he was as left as they come.
