   No armed police are thought to have been on duty at the gates,   
   which open on to Parliament Square. Pc Palmer, who died   
   from his injuries, was unarmed.   
      
   The entrance, which is also blockaded with metal barriers,   
   is used by ministers, MPs, staff and visitors. At least   
   four staff are usually stationed at the gates,   
   two outside and two inside.   
      
   A senior Commons source confirmed that Mr Fallon's
