No it isn't. It is perfectly legal to burn wood in any smoke-free zone
provided it is done in a 'DEFRA exempt' or 'smoke exempt' stove as
approved by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.

No, one has to look a bit further than that to find the actual situation.

Oh, good idea! That will instantly put all buses, lorries and taxis off
the road so we won't be able to go anywhere or get any goods.

That only really affected private cars. The major contributors to
pollution, however, are the heavy vehicles.
