XPost: alt.politics, alt.politics.democrats.d, alt.abortion       XPost: sbay.politics       From: Kunstler@dead-wigger.com              Killed by a couple of illiterate blacks who apparently didn't       give a shit about a white cock sucker who hated his own race.              A Wisconsin native who was an award-winning writer was killed in       an apparent robbery attempt while hiking near his home in       California.              David Ruenzel, 60, was hiking in the Huckleberry Regional       Preserve in Oakland on Tuesday afternoon when witnesses heard       three gunshots. One of the witnesses then found Ruenzel wounded       along a trail in that area, according to East Bay Regional Park       District Police.              Two men entered the trail just before the sound of gunshots,       witnesses told police, and those men are considered persons of       interest in the case. So far, no arrests have been made.              "It was not unusual for him if he had a free hour or two to hike       the trails," his wife, Nancy Aldrich-Ruenzel, said Friday.       "Those are trails that I've walked with him on. That was part of       the texture of his life. He was a very contemplative man, and he       liked to go hiking."              Ruenzel graduated from Whitefish Bay High School in 1973 and       often walked with his father, Fred, in natural areas near       Milwaukee.              "They would go walking at the Audubon (nature center) and near       Lake Park, and that was a sanctuary for him," Aldrich-Ruenzel       said. "He was an avid hiker, and he died doing what he loved."              Aldrich-Ruenzel, a Pewaukee native, met her husband when they       both attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison. They have       been married for 34 years and have two children, Margaret       Ruenzel and Stefan Ruenzel.              David Ruenzel gained acclaim as a teacher, writer and education       journalist, writing frequently for "Teacher Magazine." He began       his career as a teacher at University Lake School in Hartland       and most recently taught journalism at The Athenian School, a       college prep school in Danville, Calif.              "He was an affable man," David Smock, a former colleague at       Athenian, told the San Francisco Chronicle. "He cared a lot       about educational issues and his students."              Ruenzel retired from the school last year and began working for       the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, which issued a statement       this week describing him as "a beloved educator, talented       writer, and valued partner in our work."              Ruenzel was part of the foundation's "cadre of writers" and was       researching the Common Core Education Standards and teacher       effectiveness, Aldrich-Ruenzel said.              He also occasionally wrote poetry and continued to lead adult       education programs at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, she said.              "He was a very special person who will be sorely missed,"       Aldrich-Ruenzel said.              Besides his wife and children, Ruenzel is survived by his       daughter-in-law, Lina Ruenzel, and grandson Soloman; his       brother, Rick Ruenzel of Fox Point; his sister, Liz Gustavson of       Connecticut; his aunts, Joan Coleman of Whitefish Bay and Brita       Ruenzel of Milwaukee; and his father, Fred Ruenzel of Milwaukee.              http://www.jsonline.com/news/crime/wisconsin-native-killed-in-       robbery-attempt-on-california-hiking-trail-b99399232z1-       284165641.html                              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
