There is in Christian thought in America somehow always exemption for the
thinker. I once asked a radio preacher who I knew in Illinois why it was
that Christians always seemed to have some reason why their pronouncements
did't apply to themselves. He just laughed and said that if I ever figured
that one out I should call him and let him know. Whether this comes from or
goes to religeon in this county I don't know but Americans do tend to think
of ethics in terms of regulating other people rather than doing what is
right and if you point out the discrepency you will be accused of being a
dreamer. I found this to be quite common in Australia as well. Don't know
about NZ I never got out of the Aukland airport.
