XPost: alt.politics.british, uk.politics.misc, alt.politics.socialism       XPost: alt.politics.radical-left       From: thewordovermassesagainstheclasses@massesagainsttheclasses.com              9 years back the late Robin Cook said he would introduce an ethical       foreign policy for the UK. It now look like some sort of sick joke. But       what would make up an actual ethical foreign policy?.              A few ideas to get us started:              * Respect the sovereignty of all nations and their right to choose their       system of government.              * Not interfere in sovereign nations internal affairs and encourage       trade on the basis of mutual benefit.              * Of course the above two would mean the withdrawal of our troops from       Iraq, Afghanistan and former Yugoslavia.              * Close all US bases in Britain.              * Attempt to reform the UN to make it reflective of its member states       and not the US.              * Define when our troops can be used overseas, ie in disaster relief, or       special UN agreed missions.              * As a sovereign nation ourselves, our membership of both the EU and       NATO would be incompatible. We would leave both.              * No need to worry about Trident, due to the above. We can freely sell       arms for self defence purposes to nations such as Venezuela and Cuba and       other nations who are under threat from the US.              Any other suggestions?.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
