   Thanks for coming back to me.  The command you give outputs the single   
   line   
      
   drwxr-xr-x 1 root root 154 Aug 13 17:01 /usr/share/emacs/site-li   
   p/elpa/transient-0.8.8   
      
   Also, M-x find-library RET transient does bring up version 0.8.8 of   
   transient.el.   
      
   The fact that you cannot reproduce this made me try as a different local   
   user.  And indeed, with the different user, I cannot reproduce the   
   problem as well!   
      
   So this must somehow depend on my user-specific configuration, but   
   shouldn’t ‘emacs -q’ disable most of it?  As far as I know, I do not do   
   anything strange with environment variables.   
      
   Any suggestions what I could try to debug this?
