   It's beneficial even without children: statistically, single people are   
   unhappier and sicker.   
      
   On top of that, the community benefits from the effective increase in   
   purchasing power of a steady couple.  Expenses are shared, thereby   
   increasing disposable income.  If and when they are married, they also   
   get easier access to credit and other financial services.
