   In documentable cases, since at least 1634, probably goes back to Ogg   
   the Caveman.   
      
   Psychiatric condition, either beramok or amok, the first associated with   
   severe depression, the second with extreme rage.   
   Possibly connected to some cases of "suicide by cop".
