   Debian is applying as a mentoring organization for the Google Summer   
   of Code 2026[1].   
      
   This is a call for project proposals for the upcoming program. The   
   deadline for project submission is before February 3rd 2026 but   
   encouraged to do by January 19 2026.   
      
   == Proposing a Project ==   
      
   Add your project idea to the GSoC'26 Debian wiki [2], making sure you   
   complete all the fields given in the template. We require that the   
   proposed project has at least one mentor who is a Debian Developer.   
      
   If you need any help in drafting a proposal, feel free to drop an   
   email to outreach@debian.org.   
      
   == What is GSoC? ==   
      
   Google Summer of Code is an open source program in which new   
   contributors contribute to a Free Software Organization such as Debian   
   and receive a stipend from Google if the project is successful.   
      
   GSoC is a good way to get new (and old) contributors interested in the   
   parts of Debian that you consider important and to keep some of them   
   involved with Debian even after the program ends.
