   I hope this is the correct ng for my post?   
      
   I have set up RAS through a server running WS2003 this tests out okay and   
   WXP clients (users with RAS enabled logins) can dial in via modem and access   
   the network.   
      
   Because the RAS connection works we thought setting up a VPN would be easy,   
   wrong!  A WXP client set up new VPN connection to connect via PPTP to the US   
   Robotics 9003 router which has a WAN IP address of 80.xxx.xxx.234 and a   
   local address of 192.168.xxx.254.  I was informed that the router should be   
   configured as follows:

   VPN tunneling on 9003 can be done through PPTP [Point-to point tunneling   
   protocol], which allows two PC to connect on a virtual network through the   
   internet   
      
   It basically involves the connection of a VPN client to a VPN server   
      
      
   1) VPN application : The customer needs to have configured his VPN   
   application appropriately   
   2) Static Nat Mapping: Go to Firewall->NAT->Static Nat Mapping, click apply   
   Enter the Private IP address of VPN server (for this example 192.168.1.3) to   
   be mapped to the Public IP address on the WAN (for this example   
   68.72.93.202)   
      
   3) IP filtering: Go to IP filtering to open port   
      
   1. Precedence number. This number needs to be lower then any existing   
   Precedence number so it takes effect first (i.e. 10000 will take precedence   
   over 29000).   
      
   2. Dest Port should be set to .   
      
   3. Protocol should be set to TCP or any other protocols.   
      
   4. Interface name should be set to PPP0.   
      
   5. All other settings stay at default.   
      
   4)Tools->Save and Restart.

   After setting the configuration, clients attempt to connect to the router   
   but this fails with error 678.   
      
   Has anyone any ideas what is going wrong?   
      
   Any help would be very much appreciated.
