   It's a cover your ass type of precaution.  If they added any new fields   
   in memory for new configuration values then the old memory layout may   
   not work correctly.  It's not likely to be a problem though, I imagine   
   most people don't bother with this step but you are not following the   
   manufacturers directions properly if you should try it if any problems   
   develop before calling them for help.
