|    Linksys BefVP41 routers and VPN    |

From: bwmc@bellsouth.net              I have 2 linksys BEFVP41 routers with a VPN tunnel between them. I can't       ping all of the computers at either end. There is a problem pinging some       types of network cards through the tunnel so these computers are not       accessible through the network. I was told by Linksys tech support that this       was indeed a problem that the problem was not the router and they were not       going to pursue the problem. I put a sniffer on my network and monitored the       circuit. The only difference I could see was the way the mac address was       requested by the ICMP packet. Through the tunnel the ICMP packet requested       the whole mac address while a IPSEC VPN only asked for the last four numbers       of the mac address, it appears that some network cards can only use the last       4 digits of the mac address. I know there are at least 2 different       manufactures of NIC cards involved. Does anyone know of a router with VPN       capabilities that does not have this problem.       Billy              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
