Our factory configured our SonicWall (VPN over sdsl), so I am not sure
about specifics. Its firewall/NAT probably only restricts connections
initiated from the internet. It does not firewall the VPN tunnel between
our office LAN and private factory WAN, or direct internet access from our
   end.

For example I can ssh from our office to private IP of factory Linux smtp
server, or my home PC or Solaris ISP on public IP. I can access private
IP of JetDirect web config on our office printer from factory. Our
factory remotely installed and configured virus protection on our office
   XP PCs (using radmin program).

So maybe whether you need any special firewall rules depends upon whether
you firewall the VPN tunnel itself, or not.
